Boning Up with Calcium
Your body has 206 bones. Before puberty, the time when you begin to develop sexually, the body starts to form most of its bone mass (its density or thickness). Women reach their peak bone mass by around age 25 to 30. That's when their bones are strongest. Men build up bone until about age 30 to 35. The amount of peak bone mass you reach depends mostly on your genes. Little by little, with age, your bones start to break down. In late middle age, bone density lessens. Calcium, a nutrient found in foods like milk, cheese, and many vegetables, is important to help bones form and keep them strong throughout life. Getting enough calcium is especially important for young women!
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one-third of all hearing loss comes in part from loud noises. The noises we hear in everyday life: lawn mowers, jet airplanes, city traffic, and yes, rock music and stereo head phones (!) can make you lose your hearing. Keep the volume on your music low to medium so you don't blast yourself into deafness!
