Aspirin Awareness
Sometimes it can be dangerous to take aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) when you have a fever, even if you aren't allergic to it.
Teenagers and kids should not take products with aspirin in them when they have a fever with chickenpox, flu, or a cold with flu-like symptoms. Young people who take aspirin for a fever during these illnesses could develop a rare, but life-threatening condition called Reye syndrome. The signs of Reye syndrome usually appear near the end of the other illness. These include feeling severely tired, having a violent headache, feeling confused, very cranky, or unusually angry, and doing lots of vomiting.
